🔗 Share this article The Battle Royale's Specialized Traversal Techniques Become Widely Accessible During This Update Respawn Entertainment has an exciting surprise prepared for Apex Legends gamers, perfectly timed for the holidays. Fans of the battle royale's super-slick movement can rejoice to learn that a new movement mechanic will be introduced when Season 27: Amped goes live on Nov. 4. Unveiling The Mantle Boost Named "Mantle Boosting" by Respawn, this feature provides gamers a burst of propulsion when scaling ledges and walls. As explained key developer Eric Canavese, Mantle Boosting was previously existed of Apex Legends for quite a while, usually referred to as "ledge boosting." However it's no easy feat for the average player, and typically employed by competitive players in Ranked Mode or esports competitions. This season, the team is making it easier for everyone to successfully perform these tricky speed-boosts. "This technique existed in the game for a while, but executing it isn't easy to perform and a player would never know it [is in the game] without external guides," Canavese explains. "We're adding a visual cue so players can clearly identify when and how to trigger the high-octane movement ability, making accessible the mechanic and adding new ways to play for more players." The Reasoning Behind Make It Accessible Why make a previously obscure movement quirk accessible to all players? Lead Legend designer Josh Mohan says developers wants gamers to feel powerful — even those who are inexperienced. "Our community performs other crazy stuff like super-gliding and tap-strafing, and we examined at our competition, observed what our players are doing, and we wondered, 'What if we extend some of this power to a broader audience?'" Mohan explains. "Because currently, certain techniques are somewhat awkward to use — it requires to change controls and execute within precise timings. So we said, 'What if we make a polished implementation?'" The Amped Update Emphasis on Mobility Mobility is primarily the central theme in Season 27, with characters Horizon, the defensive specialist, and Valkyrie all getting buffs to maintain them in motion. The cooldown period on her tactical ability is shorter, and this skill will boost users into the air faster than it used to. Her defensive walls feature overhead protection and the ability to grant movement bonuses to those nearby. But the spotlight is on the high-flying this Legend receiving the most attention this season, with multiple tweaks implemented to make her stronger, quicker, and more lethal. "I think many agree that her moment is here," states character developer the designer. "There's no doubt she was top-tier previously, but due to the addition of new Legends, mobility perks, and redeployment tools, it seemed like she's not very relevant in current Apex. This presented an ideal chance for us to revisit multiple elements in her abilities and sort of bring her back to former prominence." Valkyrie's Upgrades To restore Valkyrie's relevance in current strategies, the developer notes the team evaluated all her skills and implemented significant modifications. Her VTOL Jets received improvements, increasing velocity during flight, and this equipment regenerates much quicker, enabling her to remain longer in the air. Now she won't take damage from her ultimate ability, which has also been upgraded to tag enemies who take damage from it. Her Skyward Dive ability — which launches teammates skyward for repositioning or retreat — now takes reduced delay to fire up. Additionally, she gains recently added perk choices that users can choose to conserve resources, expand the spread of her Missile Swarm, or accelerate her ultimate activation. "Valkyrie's equipment fulfills the pilot experience," Holstead says. Map Changes Additionally, the only floating arena, Olympus, receives a mobility-focused overhaul, with major changes that opens up bottlenecks and makes securing elevated positions a bit less daunting. Respawn state the game this update focuses on giving players the resources they need to compete in the competition. "Really, we were looking at the game's core identity as a fast-paced FPS," says lead Legend designer Josh Mohan. The battle royale Season 27: Amped releases November 4th at the specified times.
